I purchased a new phone a few months back. While trying to figure it out, I came across the games section. I found backgammon. I had never played backgammon before this. After my first loss, I decided to learn the rules and strategies. It was easy to learn the rules, and I find myself playing the game whenever I have a spare minute.
Needless to state, I was thrilled to learn that I could play backgammon online.
Early Beginnings
Although it is difficult to pinpoint the exact date when backgammon was first played, artefacts that have been discovered suggest that they were playing it over 5000 years ago. There were many variations of the game, including versions played in Persia (Greece, Greece, Rome and Egypt), and it has been called numerous names, such as Senat, Ludus Duodecim Scriptorum Tabula Alea, Nard, Tabula and Alea. Each point has its number. The player’s home is the first point. Your opponent’s home is the second point. You must set up your board before play begins. This can be done in the following:
- Each point has 2 checkers.
- Each point has 5 checkers
- Each issue has 3 checkers
- Each case has 5 checkers
The fun begins when each player receives their own set.
Each player must throw one die to determine who will go first. The player with the most number wins. Roll your dice to move your checkers from the opponent’s home board to your home board.
Checkers can move only open points on the board. Open points are any points not occupied by your opponent’s checks. You can use both dice to move one or more checkers. The other die number can be used to drive another. You could also use the sum of both numbers to move one checker. Throw a double like 6 to get the opportunity to move 6 positions 4 times. After playing a few times, you will learn the subtle ins and outs of blotting. You should avoid leaving any checkers on their points. If you do this, it will be your checker, which goes back to the beginning. This could ultimately cost you the game.
